All events will take place at White Gate Farm in East Lyme, CT.

The farm will be open to wedding guests all day Friday and Saturday. Please feel free to come explore the 100-acre farm whenever you'd like! Wander the fields, visit the animals, and, most importantly, enjoy the swimming pool and access to Lake Pattagansett.

On the Farm

Close By (10–15 min)

• Niantic Bay Boardwalk (Niantic): a 1.1-mile walk along Long Island Sound from Cini Park to Hole-in-the-Wall Beach, with Niantic's Main Street shops and ice cream nearby.
• Harkness Memorial State Park (Waterford): a seaside estate with a 1900s mansion, sweeping lawns, and formal gardens overlooking Long Island Sound; great for a picnic or a stroll (note: the beach is for walking, not swimming).
• The Book Barn (Niantic): a beloved, sprawling used bookstore spread across multiple buildings and outdoor grounds, with resident cats and goats. A local institution.
• Florence Griswold Museum (Old Lyme): home of the American Impressionism art colony; galleries, gardens, and lunch on the grounds overlooking the Lieutenant River. Right near the Old Lyme Inn.
• Black Hall Outfitters (Old Lyme): kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals on the Great Island Estuary and Connecticut River; they also run sunset paddles.

Connecticut River Towns (20–30 min)

These combine nicely into one outing:

• Essex: a picture-perfect river town; stroll Main Street down to the water, and stop into the historic Griswold Inn.
• Essex Steam Train & Riverboat: ride a vintage steam train through the Connecticut River Valley, with an optional riverboat cruise up the river (book tickets in advance online).
• Chester: tiny, charming Main Street with galleries, shops, and good lunch spots.
• Chester–Hadlyme Ferry: a five-minute crossing on one of the oldest continuously operating ferries in the U.S., with great views of the castle from the water.
• Gillette Castle State Park (East Haddam): an eccentric stone castle built by actor William Gillette, perched above the river; tour the inside or just wander the trails and grounds. The ferry lands right below it.

Mystic (~30 min)

• Mystic Seaport Museum: historic tall ships and a re-created 19th-century seafaring village.
• Mystic Aquarium: beluga whales, seals, and penguins; great with kids on Friday or Sunday.

Local Lobster Rolls

• Flanders Fish Market & Restaurant (East Lyme): a local classic just minutes from the farm; full seafood menu alongside the rolls.
• Liv's Shack (Old Saybrook, ~20 min): breezy waterfront shack by Saybrook Point.
• Lobster Landing (Clinton, ~30 min): a beloved no-frills shack on the water serving hot buttered lobster rolls, frequently ranked among the best in New England. Cash-friendly, expect a line.

The closest airport is BDL in Hartford, CT (about an hour's drive from East Lyme).

Alternatively, you can fly into JFK or LGA in New York City, PVD in Providence, or BOS in Boston (we recommend Boston or Providence over NYC, as it's an easier trip from airport to train station).

Trains from NYC:
Amtrak from Moynihan Hall (Penn Station) to Old Saybrook (prices increase significantly close to the date of travel, so purchase tickets as far in advance as possible).
Metro North from Grand Central to New Haven, followed by a 40-minute drive to East Lyme (an Uber or Lyft will cost around $50) or a 40-minute train ride on the Shoreline East line from New Haven to Old Saybrook.

Train from Boston:
Amtrak from South Station to New London.
